It’s true that people aren’t good or evil. We all have these character traits and some people have it more than others.

I also agree relationships are much more complex.

The reason I use “energy vampires” to describe them is that the dominance of those traits turns them into such, and they may not even realize it.

Heck, someone can even perceive me as a selfish person. That’s okay, I may be an “energy vampire” for THEM.

What I recommend is that life is too short to spend time around people who suck the life out of YOU (not anyone else). That way, people will bring out the best in each other and they may influence each other to develop better character traits.
